==Background==
Máel Seachlainn Mac Áeda was a member of a Connacht family associated with the Kings of Connacht. They were natives of Maigh Seóla, near Tuam, and originally of the Muintir Murchada.
The surname is nowadays rendered McHugh, or more rarely, McCoy.
